{"id":29907,"date":"2021-10-27T18:14:55","date_gmt":"2021-10-27T16:14:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/allavellilegal.com\/?p=29907"},"modified":"2024-09-16T16:27:24","modified_gmt":"2024-09-16T14:27:24","slug":"artists-europe-perhaps-does-not-leave-them-behind","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/allavellilegal.com\/blog\/en\/artists-europe-perhaps-does-not-leave-them-behind\/","title":{"rendered":"Artists: Europe (perhaps) does not leave them behind"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In 2020, EU&#8217;s cultural and creative sector suffered economic losses for over 30% for a global loss of Euro 199 billion:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Music sectors: &#8211; 75%<\/li>\n<li>Performing arts sector: &#8211; 90%<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Even before the pandemic, the sector was governed by unstable income, unpaid work and job insecurity.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The tendential silence of the Eu states was interrupted by the voice of the European Parliament.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>With a resolution of October 20, 2021, the EP invited the Commission to propose a &#8220;European artist statute&#8221; that defines a common framework on working conditions and minimum social standards for all EU countries.<\/p>\n<p>Eu States and the Commission are therefore urged to take s<strong>pecific measures to safeguard a minimum standard of income for artists and culture professionals<\/strong> on the following key points:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Urgently improve the professional conditions of artists<\/li>\n<li>Request for cross-border programs for young creators and innovators<\/li>\n<li>More effective protection from dominant streaming platforms for authors and performers<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In particular, the following problems were discussed:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cross-border mobility<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Domestic legislative differences on the legal status of artists hinder cross-border collaboration and work.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Revenue from copyright and streaming platforms<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The so-called &#8220;Buyout clauses&#8221; allow to purchase full copyright from the artist in exchange for a one-off payment and thus depriving him of royalties.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Defend artistic freedom<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It is necessary to defend artistic freedom and to ensure that European citizens can freely enjoy artistic creations.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In 2020, EU&#8217;s cultural and creative sector suffered economic losses for over 30% for a global loss of Euro 199 billion: Music sectors: &#8211; 75% Performing arts sector: &#8211; 90% Even before the pandemic, the sector was governed by unstable income, unpaid work and job insecurity.
